I'm a Montreal tech-house DJ and will be visiting your nice city from Jan. 9th to Jan. 15th '08 during my honeymoon... I'm looking for good places to go out, interesting nights... In the far reaches of the Pacific, the Ninja Clan are on a mission spanning multiple continents, sailing a vessel commissioned by the Emperor himself. Without warning, the Ninja are besieged by the unyielding winds of the sea and find themselves shipwrecked on a remote island deep in the archaic waters of the Pacific. As they forage for wood to rebuild their ship, they can not help but bear witness to the toil of a society with little food or water, slaving away for a ruthless king. This confrontation with social injustice is more than the Ninja can bear and they demand to be taken to the Sacred temple to negotiate the inhabitants freedom. An offer is made. If they are able to please Undun, Supreme God of the island, with their Ninjaskill, the souls of every man, woman and child on the island will be set free from bondage. If not, they will live amongst the people, never to complete their mission, enslaved amongst the residents of the village forever. And so, the Ninja endeavor to appease the God of the island with music culled from the ends of the earth. Help the Ninja in their quest. Ninja Skillz really wanted to throw a post-election party in an effort to try to get out the vote today (offering a free drink w/ ballot stubs). Democracy should be fun! We're doing a whole politically themed event with DJs as political candidates and patriotic campaign decor. It's going to be all tag-team DJ sets (debates) and we have grabbed some of our DJ friends that aren't usually heard in our circles (to give a voice to the underrepresented!)

Anyway, vote for Mark Zabala, watch my 3-way debate, and take dirty politican photos with me =D

Oh yeah, and if you come, we'll sign you up for the Spundae guestlist because our ninjas Saynt and Sammy Bliss are playing there the following day. Come early and carpool because Hollywood on friday nights can be difficult.

I'm coming to SF for Burning Man and have freed up some dates, Sept 5-29th and I'd love to come and spin for some of you sometime during those. What's going on?? Sorry its a bit later than normal this year, had to wait for some other gigs to confirm and some others not to, so I knew I had these weeks free.

I spin all kinds of underground house, techno and broken beats. I have a deep tech house PA pretty much ready to go as well, and I'd love to get gigs either DJing or playing live.

I need to book my flight real soon. If Im too late or there's not much happening I will likely go back to London earlier as I have tons going on...love to hang out, party and spin for as many of you as I can... On this week's show, I will be airing an interview with Desyn, along with Disc 1 of his recent release for the highly-respected Balance series. Desyn is truly a master and you will not regret making arrangements in your schedule to hear this mix.

Desyn is one of the very few DJ's who has caught the ear of some of the world's best-known DJ's, with Deep Dish, Sander K and Danny Howells nominating him as their "future DJ Hero" in DJ Magazine's Top 100 poll. With many established DJ's and newcomer DJ's leaning towards a particular style and musical range, many are pigeonholed into a genre of music. Desyn, however, has managed to establish his own sound that crosses boundaries and makes it difficult to categorize.

Desyn incorporates house classics, deep, tech, funky and progressive into his sets. "I listen and take inspiration from almost any type of music. Many tracks I find may not be instantly playable, so I use technology such as Pro Tools and Ableton Live to re-edit or update them so they will then fit into my vision of how the music will sound on the dance floor."

Desyn's love of house music began in 1989. Born and raised in London, he was exposed to the acid house movement at the age of 16 and was a regular at the legendary spiral tribe and traveller raves around the UK at that time. His DJ career all began with a mix CD that he took a considerable amount of time and love preparing. He sent the CD to 100 people who requested it from posts that he put on various Internet message boards. After a few months, the CD had been passed all around the world and ended up in the laps of various promoters and DJ's. The mix made such an impression that Desyn, although completely unknown at the time, began to receive international gig requests. From his first international gigs in Helsinki and Tampara in 2000, to his chaotic schedule today, it was all sparked from that one mix CD.

MIEKA-
Originally ascending from the east coast of the US, Mieka's explorations of house began during the early nineties in NYC. Fifteen yrs old and clubbing at Manhattan's biggest house clubs, Mieka found herself tuned into to the early sounds of house pioneers Masters At Work, Cajmere, and Derrick Carter. Mieka's passion for rhythmic beats was explored as a young girl growing up listening to her father and brother's professional drumming. As she matured under the influence of beats, she naturally gravitated towards house music. Her curiosities for the underground led her behind the scenes, where she discovered her desire to contribute to house music was much more than a cover charge at a club.
In 1996 Mieka set off various projects that included, underground house events, promotions and DJ management under the name felinephonix. Along with her engagements in the business aspects, her hobby for record collecting no sooner developed into her love for mixing. She hosted and held a residency at a weekly called "Dynamix" at Club Fusion in her hometown of Stamford, CT. One year later Mieka held a thousand person house party called, "Boogie Down" featuring top DJs. While coordinating the event a chance encounter with the illustrustrator of San FranciscoÕs XLR8R resulted in Mieka becoming a distributor for the magazine.
Her formal training began at Northeastern University where she majored in the Music Industry. Her studies in Boston provided a solid foundation concentrated on music theory, recording, and music business. After two years at the University, Mieka's ambitions for hands-on training became her focus, so she made the decision to set out for a program that would develop her interest in recording and production. Shortly thereafter, Mieka relocated to New York City where she was employed at Satellite Records as a Public Relations Coordinator and also attended The New School to study MIDI. From there Mieka spent a year in Miami, Florida collaborating with Felinephonix partner, DJ Dazha on various underground events and weekly at Club Blue. In addition her involvement in the house movement down south, she was also employed at the Winter Music Conference in 2000 for an advertising position that prepared promotional material for all registered attendees. In 2001, Mieka moved to Hollywood, California to attend The Musicians Institute where she enrolled in the RAP program for recording, studio production, and digital media, earning a certificate in Recording Arts. Upon completion of school, Mieka held a job as a house buyer for a local record store in Los Angeles. Simultaneously, during her free time she focused on recording original music and DJing.
Through persistence and dedication, her advancements in mixing floorboard rocking DJ sets have notably taken a front seat. "My recorded mixes are a representation of the experiences I've had, those parties I can't forget and a channel for me to give back that hype that I'm still feeling." Her sets have gained her recognition that has given her the opportunity to deliver that hype via Internet, community service radio broadcasts, and participation in charity events. From east coast to west, Mieka has DJed numerous underground parties from upstate warehouses to New York armories. She's worked the decks of premiere nightclubs to name a few - Stereo (Montreal, CA), Club Blue (Miami, FL), The Bank (NYC), Alchemy (New Haven, CT), and The Knitting Factory (Los Angeles, CA).
Her fondness for house music is nothing less than premiere avant-garde productions, with a focus on superior bass lines that shake the ass. "House goes through trends, no matter what is hot at any given time, I play what I love and what makes me move. I'm a dancer at heart so I know what works on the floor, if I'm not shaking my ass to the track, it's not making the cut." Aside from DJing, Mieka is also spending time in the studio collaborating with Canada's DJ/producer, Jay Tripwire on future track releases. As a multimedia artist, she is currently designing websites, promoting DJs and producers for her online "Turn On DJ" publication, as well as managing A & R for her record label Felinephonix Music.

This Wednesday, Qoöl teams up with Project Alma and POCKET to present two areas of sound to rock Soul Folks inside and out!

Indoors, we have POCKET DJs Shylock & Drifter, Jesse Wright, plus The Hungarian Connection's Yotzo and Qoölio Kris Michael. Joining this lineup will be Qoöl residents Daniel Djang and Josh Abrams.

The outdoor area will be hosted by Project Alma, who will bring their special energy and soundsystem to rock the patio with Oscure (LABA) and Project Alma residents FatFinger, Chaplin MXR, and Wendy J. Project Alma will have a bunch of found stuff from their camp, and have invited everyone to bring stuff that you've found to add. Project Alma will also run a Lost and Found for LA Burners by registering lost items and try to match them to their owners by their next party.

He began DJing in 1993 by uncovering a new sound emerging from Europe called "Goa Trance." In the years following, he organized the first psy-trance acid parties in New York and founded the groundbreaking company TSUNAMI PRODUCTIONS, considered the archetype of the East Coast psy-trance culture that exists today. In January 2000 Matt retired the trance format and began DJing and producing atmospheric Tech-House under the moniker "GRUVHAUS". His first production was signed by UK tech house master Terry Francis for Club Fabric #02. A handful of labels such as Fugu, Release Records, Polyester Music (UK), Annex Brooklyn and Chug Records have signed Matt's Gruvhaus productions & remixes. i would love it for people to post a top 10 chart of there favorite tracks from time to time. its fun to know what others are diggin on!
